Sakagami is a Tokyo-based award-winning independent documentary filmmaker, nonfiction writer, and lecturer. She directed over 20 TV documentaries in the 1990s including NHK’s Miller on Monsters (1996), about the world-renowned psychoanalyst Alice Miller’s theory on the cycle of violence. She has lived and was educated in Japan, U.S., Colombia, and Chile and obtained an MA from the University of Pittsburgh. Her 2014 film Talk Back Out Loud, about stories of women with HIV/AIDS and incarceration through the form of theater, has been screened throughout Japan.
